My radio work runs on the imaginatively titled RadioDJ, an older piece of software that maintains a local SQL database, and allows importing of music files, pre-recorded audio, and sound effects to be triggered as required through the keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen. ![]() That made the Surface Book 2 relatively invisible while editing audio - the real benefit of the extra processing power was on show with much faster rendering and exporting time of the audio files. ![]() While there are more impressive suites available for audio editing, the ‘quick and dirty’ nature of the Fringe meant that the classic open source ‘ Audacity’ audio editor took care of editing and rendering duties - interviews were recorded and imported into the editor, the requisite editing and addition of jingles and theme tunes was accomplished, and the audio file was exported at the other end with the correct ID3 tags, album art, and audio specifications as required.Īudacity is a piece of software I’m very familiar with, so dropping it onto another Windows machine meant that much of the muscle memory and understanding of preferences could be easily tapped into.
